![]() I have just watched it again and it is dating a little in comparison to more recent twists on the formula. Given how often the same mix of animation, wit, jokes and kids humour has been used since Toy Story (Ice Age, Monsters Inc, Bugs Life) it is easy to forget how refreshing it was when it first came out. ![]() But with only two days before Andy moves house, time is of the essence. When rivalries boil over Woody tries to hide Buzz down the side of the bed but accidentally pushes him out the window, the other tops expel Woody, and he leaves with no choice but to find Buzz and return him to the house. One such birthday Andy's top toy, Woody the cowboy, finds himself in direct competition with Andy's new Buzz Lightyear doll. Maybe if Pixar makes a Lightyearsequel, MacLane will reconsider and include the Little Green Men as real characters.Andy's toys live a reasonable life of fun and peace, their only worries are birthdays and Christmases, when new toys could easily replace those already there. The alien's Buzz encounters in Lightyear aren't as sentient as the LGM, which may have distracted the audience from Buzz's story. Ultimately, the Little Green Men could have had a bigger role in Lightyear without disrupting Toy Story continuity, but the film didn't need them. ![]() Did Hawthorne's son make up this alien? Or maybe the LGM drawing is a reference to another alien in another movie that exists in the Toy Story multiverse. This raises more questions than answers, though. In one shot of her family and home, there is a drawing of an LGM, presumably drawn by her son, pinned to the wall. ![]() Between his many jumps through time, Buzz witnesses in short scenes the life of his best friend, Alisha Hawthorne, one of very few LGBTQ+ Pixar has created, who has children. In fact, the Little Green Men do make a small cameo in Lightyear. ![]()
